[Updated: Porn Producer Sues] Los Angeles Now Requiring Condoms?

Los Angeles, the home and center of the porn industry and also the origin of the term “going bareback” during sex now has a law that requires all sex acts in adult films to use condoms.

The ruling, courtesy of a Tuesday decision from the LA City Council, comes after AIDS activists and safety advocates pressured the city into tightening regulations within the adult film industry. Performers in California are already required to be regularly tested for sexual diseases and produce paperwork before each shoot. Citing an outrageous lack of concern for the public’s health, however, opponents said that that wasn’t enough and have now made their voices heard among the City Council.

“New AIDS” Infects Eight Million The Americas

It’s been quite a while since the 80′s HIV epidemic, but are we getting a little too complacent? Chagas, the same disease that killed Charles Darwin may prove so.

As many as 8 million people are infected in the Western Hemisphere, mainly in Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia and Central America, as well as some 30,000 people in the U.S., the newspaper reported. Chagas infects people in areas of poverty, and most U.S. cases are found in immigrants.

Does This Glow In The Dark Kitten Have The Cure For AIDS?

Glowing catsThese cats were injected with a serum to help them be more resistant to cat AIDS (yes, it’s a real epidemic). A fluorescent protein common in jellyfish was also injected into these cats, but before PETA gets a hold of these cats to whom they make love and a hold of their owners to crucify, there may be a break through in the research helping the fight against AIDS.

FIV infects mostly feral cats, of which there are half a billion in the world, Dr Poeschla said. It is transmitted by biting, largely by males defending their territory, but companion cats are affected as well.

Successful AIDs Vaccine

It seems that progress is officially happening in the case of major diseases. Earlier this week there was the proposed cancer killing virus and now an attempted cure for the AIDs virus. Things seem to be going well in the medical field. Everyone grab your book bags and it is off to Med School we go! Make sure to bring plenty of money though, “cause in order to get smart like them doctors, you gotsta pay a’ plenty.”

The first human test results were published in Vaccine and Journal of Virology. In the experiment, scientists injected the vaccine in 24 of 30 HIV-free volunteers. Six volunteers were treated with a placebo vaccine—they didn’t experience any effect. But 90% of the treated subjects developed a very strong immunological response against the HIV virus. 85% kept the immunological reaction for at least one year, which is really good news.

According to their results, there were no significant secondary effects in any of the patients, which was one of the major objectives of to be tested in this clinical trial.

Despite the success, Dr Esteban is cautious:

[T]he treatment has only been tested on 30 volunteers and, while [the vaccine] provokes a powerful response in most of the cases, it’s still to soon if the resulting defense would be effective against an actual [HIV] infection.

The team will now start another phase I trial, injecting the vaccine in HIV-infected people. The objective of this trial is to test the therapeutical effect of the vaccine in these patients.

Okay, so it isn’t some sure fire cure as it hasn’t actually been tested on people with AIDs apparently; but hey, it can at least be used as a preventative encase you don’t like using condoms or like sharing needles? Speaking of needles, what did the needle say to the skin? Don’t know? Well neither do I. I don’t know everything so stop asking so many questions dammit! Also in an attempt to comment on the picture, apparently Superman is capable of getting AIDs. He can’t get any disease known to man, but he can get AIDs. Well what do you know about that!
