Key Al Qaeda leader assassinated
Anwar Awlaki, a leader of Al Qaeda stationed at the Arabian Peninsula , was proclaimed dead earlier today. Obama calls it a “major blow” to the terrorist organization in general, but others do not believe that the man should have been assassinated in such a manner, as they like to do things the “American” way with courts and whatever.
U.S. officials consider Awlaki’s death a significant victory for the administration, given the Muslim cleric’s connection to several plots on U.S. soil and around the globe.
U.S. counter-terrorism operations have killed at least 20 Al Qaeda leaders in the field, but Awlaki’s death raised new concerns for some Obama critics because the target was an American citizen.
Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) on Friday criticized Obama for “assassinating” Awlaki, saying he should have been tried in a U.S. court like domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh.

He said his disagreement arises largely from the fact that Awlaki holds dual American and Yemeni citizenship and authorities have never been “specific” about his crime.
In a prelude to his remarks at a ceremony marking the departure of Adm. Michael G. Mullen as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Obama listed several of the plots in which officials say Awlaki was involved.

Call me an ignorant “kid”, but I don’t believe the man deserved to have a hearing in US courts. I tend to believe the court system is flawed though. A good lawyer can get anyone off easy or put an innocent person away, all depends on who has the right connections and money. Then again, the elderly man did have a point. We can’t just accept the words government officials say. Personally any amount of news about the war progressing in a positive direction is good, so truth or not, at least the people who read it gain a little hope. Of course, you can’t spell hope without hoe and we all know where they get you. To freshly tilled soil that’s where! Now we can all afford to have a bit of hoe around some p.
