Marvel Comics announced Tuesday that the “X-Men’s” openly gay member, Northstar, will propose to his boyfriend in “Astonishing X-Men #50”, which hits stores Wednesday. It’s the latest in a trend of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender-friendly storylines in the medium.

The pair will make it official in the next issue, in a same-sex wedding in Central Park that has a who’s who of super heroes on the guest list.

X-Ray Camera Phones?

They may be the next new craze, up their with the new Google smart phone glasses and the new, more accurate sequel to ‘the Fast and The Furious’, The Slow and Superfluous.

Researchers at UT Dallas might have figured out how to tap the terahertz spectrum with a special microchip that’ll grant you Superman’s X-ray-like vision (only it’s T-ray vision).

You see, unlike the other wavelength bands in the electromagnetic spectrum that are used for all sorts of things from sending radio broadcasts to keeping your 3G signal on your smartphone running, the terahertz band is one that has not been fully used due to the potential thermal radiation risk on human processes such as “gene expression and DNA replication.”

Successful AIDs Vaccine

It seems that progress is officially happening in the case of major diseases. Earlier this week there was the proposed cancer killing virus and now an attempted cure for the AIDs virus. Things seem to be going well in the medical field. Everyone grab your book bags and it is off to Med School we go! Make sure to bring plenty of money though, “cause in order to get smart like them doctors, you gotsta pay a’ plenty.”

The first human test results were published in Vaccine and Journal of Virology. In the experiment, scientists injected the vaccine in 24 of 30 HIV-free volunteers. Six volunteers were treated with a placebo vaccine—they didn’t experience any effect. But 90% of the treated subjects developed a very strong immunological response against the HIV virus. 85% kept the immunological reaction for at least one year, which is really good news.

According to their results, there were no significant secondary effects in any of the patients, which was one of the major objectives of to be tested in this clinical trial.

Despite the success, Dr Esteban is cautious:

[T]he treatment has only been tested on 30 volunteers and, while [the vaccine] provokes a powerful response in most of the cases, it’s still to soon if the resulting defense would be effective against an actual [HIV] infection.

The team will now start another phase I trial, injecting the vaccine in HIV-infected people. The objective of this trial is to test the therapeutical effect of the vaccine in these patients.

Okay, so it isn’t some sure fire cure as it hasn’t actually been tested on people with AIDs apparently; but hey, it can at least be used as a preventative encase you don’t like using condoms or like sharing needles? Speaking of needles, what did the needle say to the skin? Don’t know? Well neither do I. I don’t know everything so stop asking so many questions dammit! Also in an attempt to comment on the picture, apparently Superman is capable of getting AIDs. He can’t get any disease known to man, but he can get AIDs. Well what do you know about that!
